New exhibit will double the size of our current Market experience.
Food connects people throughout its journey from source to gathering place. This is the central theme for the new market exhibit at Please Touch Museum.
The Museum’s exhibition and education teams are hard at work in redesigning the most beloved exhibit in the Museum. The new exhibit, Food & Family brought to you by GIANT, is over 3,000 square feet of exhibit space for young children to learn about the journey of food and its importance in cultures, communities, and traditions. The exhibit will foster open-ended learning, where multi-generational visitors will engage in three connected content areas: the grocery market, the home kitchen, and the community festival.
Design Concepts

With the exhibit design now 75 percent complete, Please Touch Museum has engaged a fabricator to help refine the exhibition as we move toward construction of the project which is set to begin in early May.
“The new Market experience will explore the many ways we use and encounter food,” shared Director of Exhibitions Charles McGhee Hassrick. “We are creating a dynamic, vibrant and inclusive experience where visitors will be able to see themselves and their communities in the exhibit.”
Chief Learning Officer Olivia Thomas shared, “Through play, young children will explore where food comes from, how we get it, what we do with it, and how to make good choices. Most importantly, we want families to leave with an understanding of how food can bring people together.”
The new Food & Family exhibit is made possible by The GIANT Company’s investment in Please Touch Museum through a $1.2 million leadership gift to the Creating the Future of Play Campaign, raising critical operating funds during the Museum’s extended closure.
