Space Odyssey Weekend 2018\

May play be with you!  Grab your light sabers, blast off, and travel through space fueled on creativity and imagination.

Pop Up Play Corner: Jedi Academy
9:30-10:30 am
Hamilton Hall, Main Level
All ages with adult caregiver
Put on your imagination cap, escape the death star, dodge the storm trooper’s laser beams, and navigate through the asteroid field to test your Jedi skills at our Jedi Academy and take home a special Jedi Training Completion certificate!

Temporary Program Room: Oil Pastel Galaxies
11 am- 2 pm
Group Rooms 5 and 6, Lower Level
All Ages with adult caregiver
Drop in any time to experiment with materials and process, as you create works of art inspired by your trip to the Museum and use oil pastels to explore the wonders of the galaxy.

Drop-in & Draw: Space Odyssey Sketches
11 am  – 2  pm
Outside Centennial Explorations, Lower Level
Ages: 4+ with adult caregiver
Drop-in, look closely at items from Please Touch Museum Collections, grab a piece of paper, and sketch your own space odyssey.

Who said the Dark Side can’t dance? Dance and lightsaber battle with Wookiedelphia – Philadelphia’s premiere Star Wars-inspired brass band playing the John Williams jams in out of this world ways.

Curious about the nighttime sky? Have a telescope and want to know how to use it? Explore stars and telescopes with The Franklin Institute’s Chief Astronomer, Derrick Pitts.

Signature Events + Family Festivals

Our signature events include family festivals and holiday pop-ups. They offer expanded performance and educational offerings with a special focus that may celebrate cultural traditions and holidays, connect to national and local events, or highlight an area of focus in our exhibits.

Performing Arts

The Playhouse at Please Touch Museum invites children to exercise their imaginations and enter new worlds. Inside the theater, visitors experience theater in engaging, interactive and unexpected ways. The Playhouse is the perfect way to introduce young children to the performing arts!

Play Without Boundaries

Play Without Boundaries is a program and early opening for children with learning and developmental disabilities and those on the autism spectrum. It is a free event with registration. Enjoy the museum before it is open to the public with activities and experiences designed especially for this program, including sensory toys, performances and guest presenters. The Museum will be calmer and quieter with fewer people and reduced lighting and sound in exhibition areas.
