Kindergarten Mixer

Welcome to K-Mix!

Kindergarten Mixer, part of Please Touch Museum’s School Readiness Initiative, is a fun-filled evening of play and learning, for families with children starting Kindergarten in the fall of 2017! This after-hours event is free with Museum admission, and supports and celebrates the transition into Kindergarten, and features special programming for new students and their grown-ups, including:

  • The chance to meet a Kindergarten teacher, and explore a real school bus
  • Family-friendly entertainment, including a special presentation of “Pinky Prepares for Kindergarten” in the Please Touch Playhouse
  • A Meet & Greet with Kadeja Wexler, author of Adventures with the Jujukas: Little Lilly’s First Day of School

Kindergarten Mixer will be held in conjunction with our First Wednesday celebration with $2 per person admission. No registration required.

Have a case of the first day of school jitters? Join Pinky and prepare for your first day of school.

Storytime and Author Meet & Greet: Kadeja Wexler

Come listen to a very special storytime led by Philadelphia author Kadeja Wexler. Pick up a copy of Adventures with the Jujukas: Little Lilly’s First Day of School in the Kid’s Shop for an opportunity to have Kadeja sign your book!

Meet & Greet: Teachers and Librarians

Do you have questions about your first day of school? These teachers and librarians from Philadelphia Schools can help you find the answers!

Enjoy a special storytime reading of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, meet Cookie Mouse himself, and learn how to make your own kid-friendly cookies at home with a special chef demonstration. In Tuesday, it’s evening around eight and it begins to rain frogs! Celebrate a fun and fantastic world where frogs can fly with Tuesday author David Wiesner, and a Meet & Greet with Elmwood Zoo!.

Program Room: Illustrations
Program Room, Floor 1
11am – 4pm
Drop in anytime to create works of art inspired by Frogs! Get inspired by Tuesday and flying frogs and create illustrations.

Tot Spot: F is for Frogs
Fairytale Garden, Ground Floor
11:30am – 12pm
Join in activities, songs, and play specially designed to offer our youngest visitors time and space to socialize with others and strengthen early learning skills. This month get inspired by the book Tuesday in the Storyland exhibit, and investigate the colors and sounds of frogs.

Meet & Greet: Elmwood Zoo
Centennial Exploration, Ground Floor
11 – 11:30am, 12 – 12:30pm
Join Elmwood Zoo for a 30-minute interactive experience that engages families with interesting animal biofacts that can be touched and live animals that can be seen up close.

Storytime and Author Meet & Greet: David Wiesner

Come listen to a very special Storytime and fun-filled talk led by local author David Wiesner. Pick up a copy of Tuesday in the Kid’s Shop for an opportunity to have David sign your book.

Music and Movement : End of the Day Parade

Hop through the Museum, and add your own sounds and moves to close out a special day at PTM.

Play Without Boundaries
Aug 6 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Please join us for Play Without Boundaries, a program and early opening for kids with learning and developmental disabilities and those on the autism spectrum.

PWB early openings provide an opportunity for families to enjoy the museum before it is open to the public without the crowds and loud noises. The Museum will be calmer and quieter with fewer people, lower lighting and less noise.

During this event we offer:

• Quiet Space of the Day with Quiet Kit sensory toys
• Full access to Museum exhibit spaces
• Program Room activities

We also invite you to join us for interactive activities from the following partners:

MusicWorks Therapy Workshop Sessions
9:30 – 10am and 10:15—10:45am

Both programs will be followed by a 15 minute question and answer session for caregivers.

PAWS: Autism Initiative
9 – 11am
Centennial Classroom, Ground Floor
Spend time and make new friends with certified therapy animals and their trained teams.
