Developed under the leadership of Temple University Psychology Professor Kathy Hirsh-Pasek through Temple University’s Infant and Chidl Lab in collaboration with Please Touch Museum, Parkopolis is designed to promote engagement, physical activity and STEM-focused learning dialog between adults, children, and peers.

Please Touch Museum visitors to the exhibit will step onto a life-size board game and be met with a variety of fun and colorful learning prompts. Additional exhibition elements include two life-size dice tumblers and a life-size card deck meant to prompt facilitated engagement, movement and play.

In Hello from Japan!, children and adults will have fun learning about Japanese culture today through two playful and highly immersive trilingual exhibition environments – a super cute kawaii streetscape and a peaceful Shinto shrine park area.

Through the exhibit, children will:

  • Develop fine and gross motor skills as they trace Japanese characters and design a personalized mascot figure, dress-up and sing to a favorite karaoke song and crawl through the forest in the Shinto shrine area.

  • Practice problem-solving skills and manipulation of 3-dimensional elements as they build bridges and load a Japanese city truck with construction materials.

  • Exercise creative and digital literacy skills as they learn how to write the names of fruits and vegetables in Japanese, read Japanese manga books and traditional kami stories, and compose wishes at the Wishing Tree.

  • Practice early math skills as they take meal orders and play cashier at the bento restaurant.

Hello from Japan! was created by the Children’s Museum of Manhattan and is part of the Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series, funded by The Freeman Foundation and administered by Association of Children’s Museums.

The Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series is funded by The Freeman Foundation and administered by Association of Children’s Museums to bring outstanding interactive exhibits about Asian cultures to children, their families and school groups at children’s museums across the United States.
