Family Festival: ¡Fiesta!

We are throwing a fiesta to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month! Listen, dance, and touch to explore traditions near and far, old and new.

Program Room: Papel Picado
Program Room, Floor 1
10am to 3pm
Drop in anytime to create works of art inspired by your visit to the Museum! This month, punch and stamp designs to transform paper into a work of art inspired by the Mexican artistic technique, Papel Picado.

Tot Spot: A is for Alphabeto
Fairytale Garden, Ground Floor
10 – 10:30am
Join in activities, songs, and play specially designed to offer our youngest visitors time and space to socialize with others and strengthen early learning skills. At this special Tot Spot celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, investigate the words, colors, and sounds of the English and Spanish alphabet.

Live Musical Performance: The Bilingual Birdies Band
Hamilton Hall, Floor 1
11am and 12pm
Cantemos and baila, sing and dance! The Bilingual Birdies Band consists of NYC-based Latin musicians who are pioneers in the family world music scene. They fuse the sounds of cumbia, salsa, tango, and samba, creating an epic dance party where families are exposed to and empowered by the rich cultural heritage of Latin America!

Drop-In & Draw: Flags All Around!
City Park, Floor 1
11am – 12:30pm
Drop-in to observe the many colors and patterns of flags from Hispanic countries. Then grab a piece of paper and some colored pencils and see if you can make a copy of one on your own.

Storytime: Familia, Family
Storyland exhibition, Floor 1
Get cozy and listen to stories, sing songs, and build literacy skills with stories that showcase the history and culture of Hispanic Heritage such as Abuela from our Storyland exhibit.

Maker Program: Jewelry Making
Centennial Classroom, Ground Floor
2 – 3pm
How do you turn rocks and minerals into a piece of jewelry? Join us for an hour-long open-ended exploration of the Latin American tradition of jewelry making and hands-on experience with tools and materials.

Music and Movement: End of the Day Parade
Hamilton Hall, Floor 1
4:30 – 5pm
Join us for a musical parade featuring Latin percussion instruments to celebrate our the end of ¡Fiesta! Family Festival at Please Touch Museum.
